AIMS AND SCOPE
The purpose of this session is to present novel research of machine learning techniques for natural language processing particularly in the biomedical domain. The amount of biomedical literature has grown exponentially within the last decade. The resulting abundance of scholarly material is of significant importance to researchers and healthcare professionals. However it is only valuable if efficient and reliable ways of accessing and analyzing that information are available.
Advances in machine learning techniques can improve the retrieval and analysis of biomedical information. We invite researchers to submit papers with their recent research on machine learning methods applied specifically to the analysis and processing of unstructured biomedical text, clinical text and any other healthcare related text media. We strongly encourage authors to submit papers describing their algorithmic contributions, methodological contributions, and computational results concerning biomedical text analysis as their main application. Papers are sought on a range of topics in this area that include, but are not limited to:
And more general topics such as:
· Classification Techniques for Partially Annotated Data
Selected contributions from last year’s session were published in a special issue in BMC Bioinformatics. Again, for ICMLA’11, a selected group of papers will be considered for a special issue in BMC Bioinformatics and/or Database (Oxford Journals). We particularly invite all interested attendees to join our discussions during the presentations for the various aspects of learning, mining and turning unstructured biomedical text into intelligent information.
