Special Session
on
Machine Learning Applications in Multimedia Information Retrieval
of
The Seventh International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications (ICMLA’ 08)
http://www.icmla-conference.org/icmla08/
December 11-13, 2008 – San Diego, CA, USA
Machine learning has great influence and many applications nowadays. This special session focuses on how machine learning approaches can solve problems in multimedia analysis, processing, retrieval, and visualization. In the real applications, the multimedia data are in high dimension, in large scale, and needs to process both spatial and temporal information. The goal is to draw together researchers from both communities of machine learning and multimedia information analysis, processing, and retrieval, not only for sharing their insightful research experiences from each field. And the more important goal is to inspire new research directions and hence to propose possible solutions for existing open problems. Original papers in the field of machine learning or multimedia analysis, processing, and retrieval are all welcome for submission. The topics of interest are (but not limited to):
n Low level feature extraction, selection and transformation
n High level feature extraction from multimedia/cross-media
n Semantic content analysis, classification, and automatic annotation
n User-access pattern monitoring, modeling, and prediction
n Learning and relevance feedback in multimedia retrieval
n Semi-supervised learning in multimedia data analysis
n Transfer or multitask learning in multimedia/cross-media data analysis
n Interactive Learning and relevance feedback in multimedia retrieval
n Metadata or Ontology based indexing, searching and retrieval
n Semantic organization/visualization of multimedia and cross-media data
n Emerging challenges
Potential participants to the
special session are invited to submit a technical paper. Submissions should be
sent electronically in PDF format at the regular paper
submission website (http://www.icmla-conference.org/icmla08/) by June 15, 2008 July 15, 2008. Papers should not exceed a maximum of 6
pages (including abstract, body, tables, figures, and references), and
should be submitted as a pdf in 2-column IEEE format. Detailed instructions
for the authors can be found at the conference website.
Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, as a hardcopy.
All accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors to be published in
the conference proceedings. The presented papers will be also considered for a
special issue in an international journal.
